… Is to promote early childhood literacy in Central Texas through distributing free age-appropriate books to kids in need. We work in Title I schools to support parents and teachers striving to deliver the best possible education to elementary age students. Studies have shown that children who lack reading proficiency by the third grade are four times more likely to drop out of school. These effects are felt most acutely by families living near or below the poverty line because they are less likely to have books in the home. The impact of the summer reading gap causes struggling young readers to fall further behind, unless we take action. For many of the students we serve, the books received through our program are the first they own.
Thank to the generous support of our corporate sponsors, volunteers, and host schools, we are able to fulfill our mission by distributing 9,000 books each year. Click here to learn more about our process.
